The main purpose of the Program is to teach and perpetuate the standard Croatian Language. Also, we hope to motivate students to learn about Croatian culture while having fun.

One of the basic principles of the Program is the intercultural approach, which means that our curriculum reflects and respects multicultural structure of both Croatian and American societies (religious, ethnic, youngster, subcultures, etc.). That is one of the basic suppositions of better understanding and respect of others, but also of our own sense of intercultural identity in a contemporary social context.

 

Tuition for the year 2011/2012:

• Children's Workshops (ages 3-13)
  (Sep 24 - June16) on 10 select Saturdays: $150/child for all 10 workshops, or drop-in for workshops of your choice and pay at the door (advance registration required) $15/child per workshop.

• Adult Language Courses (Beginner, Intermediate) First Semester
  (Oct 1 - Jan 7, 16 hours): $150
• Adult Language Courses (Beginner, Intermediate) Second Semester
  (Jan 28 - May 5, 16 hours): $150

 

Registration

For children's workshops: registration is required at least one week before each workshop so we can plan for supplies and snacks. If you prepaid for all 10 children's workshops at the beginning of the year you do not need to register for each workshop, but please let us know one week in advance if you will not attend.

For adult classes: please register by August 1, 2011. In order to run a class, a minimum of five students is required.

Textbooks

The Adult Beginner language class will use textbook and workbook "Dobro došli 1" by Jasna Barešić(Školska knjiga, Zagreb). We may order these books from Croatia and we expect that the price for each book will be around $25 (the price of the books is not covered by the tuition). If you wish to order these books through us, please register by July 1, 2011 so we can have them available for purchase at first Adult Beginner Lang class on Oct 1.

Adult Intermediate language class will continue to use "Beginner's Croatian with 2 Audio CDs" by Aida Vidan and Robert Niebuhr.
